i changed the minimum prebuffer time from 1 second to 5 seconds about a week ago. i'd be curious if it makes things any better for you, with respect to the number of "pinwheels". i think they could likely pinwheel longer, but hopefully when it stops things play more consistently for you.

or, were you saying the pinwheels never ever stopped at all for you?

Hi, Tracey,

It only seems to fail on certain files.....usually films that have been converted from video to digital, and then posted and converted on IA. It never fails on stuff that has been posted without an 'analog' stage...eg 'DVD rips',
etc. I don't think IA is at fault, here....it's happened too many times on similar items...I'm more inclined to think that the 'items' may be the problem.

Maybe an obscure compressor issue ?

Thanks for your help,

rabid47

ah, yes!

indeed that sounds *precisely* like it was an uploaded .mp4
file that doesn't have the "moov atom" at the front of the file, but at the end.
nearly all default mp4 makers will write the keyframe information at the end of the file, and one has to be diligent to make sure to rewrite the .mp4 after the transcoding is done to put the "moov atom" at the front.

"qt-faststart" is a great little utility/fixer part of the "ffmpeg" package (both of which we use here when we make our .mp4).

so yah, unfortunately, we've felt reticent to modify an uploader's "source" .mp4 files and rewrite the atoms for them, for when they're at the end of their .mp4.

we're still kinda trying to figure out what to do for these cases...
